BMDA Highlights - 6/12/09
BRE - As has been mentioned before, one of the BMDA's primary missions is to assist our existing employers through the retention and expansion of existing businesses. To that end, the BMDA conducts an on-going program called the Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) Program where staff conducts one-on-one visits with area companies in an effort to identify and address the concerns of individual businesses and the business community as a whole.
This year, the BRE Program will have two components, the primary and service sectors of the entire MSA and the retail community of Mandan. To participate in the primary sector BRE Program, please contact Brian at britter@bmda.org or 222-5530.

Mandan retail BRE - This past year the City of Mandan asked BMDA to partner with them to expand the visitation program to a larger group of businesses to include retail, service and tourism businesses located in Mandan. A goal was set to conduct 25 visits in Mandan specifically targeting those types of businesses for the year. This week Richard and Ellen Huber put together a targeted list of businesses for the 2009 retail, service and tourism visitation program. These business visits will be done in July and August.
Please feel free to contact Richard if you wish to participate in this Mandan retail visitation program at rmower@bmda.org or (701) 222-5530.

Renaissance Zone workshop - This past Tuesday Richard participated in the renaissance zone training session put on by the North Dakota Department of Commerce. Renaissance Zone Program Manager Gordon LaFrance used the training session to update the communities on the changes to the renaissance zone program from the recent legislative session. Invitees to the event included both communities who already have established renaissance zones, as well as those who are considering adding a renaissance zone to their community.
At the present time Richard is working with the two Morton County communities that have expressed interest in the program. BMDA is actively supporting both Hebron and New Salem as they work through issues related to the renaissance zone development process.
Please feel free to contact Richard with any questions about the Renaissance program or if your Burleigh or Morton County community would like to learn more about Renaissance Zones at rmower@bmda.org or (701) 222-5530.

Follow-up from the 2009 ICSC Convention - Richard continues working with Ellen Huber to follow up with the contacts made in Las Vegas during the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) 2009 convention. Richard and Ellen are planning to provide a report of activities to the Mandan City Commission at its July 21st meeting. While the show was much smaller this past year, the smaller numbers allowed for better access to the retailers who attended the convention.
