NDPeople.org -- Don Morrison

Dear Senator Seymour,

Let’s be clear. Most Americans including most North Dakotans know we must reform health care. Voters spoke in 2008. Expectations were high that something would be done that would benefit middle America.

This past month, the roadblocks to reform rolled out their public strategy with anger and fabricated fears. It is important that we make no mistake about who those roadblocks are.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa): One of the six Finance Committee members supposedly negotiating something that’s bipartisan. But, at town hall meetings in Iowa Grassley said he actually was stalling. He keeps repeating the outright lies about "death panels", pulling the plug on grandma, and rationing. Now, he's fundraising by attacking Obama and leaving no room to compromise.

Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyoming): Another of the six Finance Committee bipartisan group. He said he is not interested in compromising with Democrats on health care reform.

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-North Carolina): Clearly stated the Republican game-plan. If the GOP can stop Obama from reforming health care "it will be his Waterloo; it will break him." Recently, Sen. Bob Bennett (R-Utah), said the GOP's "number 1 assignment in 2009 is to kill Obamacare."

Their positions are very clear. In July and August, opponents were allowed to take over the debate and attack core parts of reform, particularly those that would actually give Americans a real choice and give insurance companies real competition.

So, as Congress reconvenes after summer recess, it is more important than ever for those of us who support real reform to make our voices heard clearly and strongly. If the public option is discarded, the result will be keeping the insurance and drug companies running the health care system.

That does not have to happen. It is up to us. Our rally in Fargo last weekend was a wonderful show of support for real reform and an exciting, positive contrast with the angry, fearful opponents of Americans having the health care we need. On this rollercoaster ride, the momentum is back to pro-reform.

The coming week is important. We’ll be contacting you more often. We’d like to hear from you! What are you doing to help pass real health care reform? What will you do?

Join us as we fight to make history in 2009 by passing reform that will bring quality affordable health care to everyone in our country. It’s time.

Sincerely,

Don Morrison

P.S. We’ve had a fairly good year with funds for our work. We haven’t asked very often for your help. But, now we need your contribution. Please click here to see how you can contribute. Thanks!
