Tips for info-sharing with local and tribal officials

The FBI and DHS need to better clarify what "suspicious activities" local and tribal officials in border communities are to report to federal law enforcement and state fusion agencies, and how to report them.

That was one of the central findings of a recent Government Accountability Office (GAO) report to the House Committee on Homeland Security that studied information sharing among local and tribal officials in border communities, the Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the FBI and state fusion agencies. Can states' health care systems deal with an emergency 'surge'?

In a recent report to the Subcommittee on Management, Investigations, and Oversight, of the House Committee on Homeland Security, the Government Accountability Office looked into the capability of the nation's health care systems to "surge" after a terrorist attack, a pandemic or some other mass casualty event.

Specifically, GAO examined the "assistance the federal government had provided to help states prepare for medical surge and what states had done to prepare for medical surge." More


DHS designates foreign countries eligible for H-2A and H-2B visa programs

DHS has published its annual list of countries whose nationals may petition to enter the U.S. under H-2A and H-2B nonimmigrant status, in effect becoming legal guest workers. More



Summit Partners takes minority stake in NetWitness Corp.

Herndon, VA-based NetWitness Corp., the threat intelligence and network forensics specialist, reports that it has received an investment from Summit Partners, the Boston, MA-based equity firm.

The investment, says NetWitness, will be used to "fund additional technology acquisitions and other strategic initiatives related to the company's industry-leading network security technology." More

Chantilly, VA-based American Systems, the government IT solutions provider, has promoted Peter Smith to chief operating officer. More


IceWEB MLP gets 100TB expansion

Sterling, VA-based IceWEB, Inc. has released modular data storage expansion packs for its multi-purpose lightweight portable (MLP) platform.

IceWEB reports that its MLP is being used around the world to assist in protecting communities against potential terrorist threats at such events as the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, the G8 Summit and the 2010 FIFA World Cup. More
