Week of political press releases - North Dakotans take government and politics very seriously. Our ability to “reach out and touch” our political leaders from the time they announce they are going to run for a particular office is something we hold dear. This past week heard numerous political announcements. The first was Governor John Hoeven, who on Monday formally announced his candidacy for the US Senate seat being vacated by retiring US Senator Byron Dorgan. A crowd of approximately 350 supporters cheered the Governor on. On Thursday morning, Dr. John Warford, Bismarck’s two-term mayor, announced he will be running for a third term. His supporters were equal in enthusiasm to those of Governor Hoeven. Also announcing his candidacy on Thursday for North Dakota’s lone US House seat in Congress was Public Service Commissioner Kevin Cramer. He will run against Congressman Earl Pomeroy who was first elected to the seat in 1992. Also, both Bismarck City Commissioner Parrell Grossman and Burleigh County Assistant State’s Attorney Cynthia Feland have announced their intentions to seek the office of South Central District judgeship, which was most recently held by Bob Wefald who has retired.

Korean investment delegation visits Bismarck - A delegation of 11 Korean investors, including a number of spouses, arrived in Bismarck on Wednesday’s 4:15 pm flight to begin a three-day whirl wind tour of several locations around the state related to the possibility of FK Partners building a processing facility somewhere in North Dakota. We have reported on this project since it was in its infancy a year ago. At this time it appears the project is gaining momentum and the need to begin supplying at least a limited amount of North Dakota beef to Korean consumers is the driving issue. A group of Bismarck and Mandan business and political leaders will help the BMDA host the Korean delegation for a North Dakota prime rib beef dinner on Friday evening.
