Events

Tiphanie Yanique speaks as part of Visiting Writers series Thursday

Thursday evening (April 1) Tiphanie Yanique, a New York based Carribian-American writer, will speak as part of the Visiting Writers series in Aleshire Theater, 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.



Graywolf Press will publish Yanique’s story collection "How to Escape from a Leper Colony" this month. She is a fiction writer, poet and essayist. Yanique is the winner of a Pushcart Prize, the Kore Press Fiction Prize, The Academy of American Poets Prize, a Fulbright Scholarship in writing and the Boston Review Fiction Prize.



The Minot State University Department of English started the Visiting Writers Series to bring in nationally recognized writers as well as showcase North Dakota and local writers. The series provides an exciting opportunity that will allow students and the community to hear new and established writers. The first visiting writer was Debra Marquart, a Napoleon native, last month.

Spiritual Wellness series begins

The Spiritual Wellness series will start with a discussion about the book “A Good Dose of God” by Nathan Anderson, College of Education and Health Sciences accreditation technology support coordinator. We will be meeting April 8 and 22 in the Office of Housing conference room (Dakota Hall, south entrance), 12:15-1 p.m. Anderson and Kari Williamson, campus pastor, will co-lead the discussion. Individuals may purchase the book at Gideon’s Trumpet at Dakota Square, Main Street Books downtown, www.adoseofgod! .com, or directly from Anderson.

Blue Cross Blue Shield offering education program

Blue Cross Blue Shield will provide an education program on Monday (April 5) in the Westlie Room, 9:30-10 a.m. and 2-2:30 p.m.



Learn how to earn up to $250 a year by living a healthy lifestyle and using NDWellnessCenter.com, ndwellnesscenter.com/, to set up a MyHealthCenter account. When you set up an account, you will be able to earn credit by visiting a health club or earn points and be able to redeem them for rewards throughout the year.

General Information

Summer and fall work study

It is time to start thinking about work study for summer and fall terms. To be considered for summer work study, a student must:

· Have a 2010-2011 Free Application for Federal Student Aid processed for the upcoming year.

· Have completed verification (if necessary).

· Have eligibility for work study.

· Be enrolled in at least one credit for summer term.

· Have completed a summer financial aid application (available after April 1 at the Office of Financial Aid).

· Be enrolled full time for fall.



If you have work-study students who would like to be considered for employment this summer, please visit with them regarding these criteria.



Attached is a Summer Work Study Agreement.2010_Summer work study_agreement.pdf Agreements must be returned by Monday (April 5). Due to time constraints in awarding summer financial aid, no requests will be considered after Monday (April 5).



Also, please send me the names of any work-study students you will have returning to your department in the fall.

NDUS Arts and Humanities Summit submission deadline extended
The deadline to submit a proposal to the 2010 NDUS Arts and Humanities Summit (October, at Dickinson State University) has been extended for two weeks, until April 15. For more details about the conference and how to submit a proposal, please go to www.dickinsonstate.edu/AHsubmit/.
